RAINFOREST ACTION NETWORK : Banks are funding deforestation. Help us bring the fight to their door !

If you want to understand why rainforests are being destroyed, the first thing to do is to follow the money : behind every acre destroyed, every piece of Indigenous land that’s stolen, and every worker exploited, there’s a large bank profiting from the abuse.

It’s our job to connect the dots between rainforest destruction, human rights abuse and the corporations making a profit from it. Through our investigations, we identify the banks and brands that are literally fueling destruction and work to expose their abuse and hold these corporations and banks accountable.

Every day, we’re going up against the largest and most powerful corporations and banks in the world.

From investigating in dangerous conditions on the ground to standing up against the power and wealth of banks that eclipse us in size, we need your support to follow the money and hold the banks accountable for their financial choices.

Banks like MUFG — and its US subsidiary Union Bank — are directly financing one of the worst human rights abusers of the palm oil sector : Sinar Mas Group.

The only thing that you can trust is that this bank is trying to fatten its bottom line by profiting from the illegal land grabs, workers’ rights abuses and the criminalization of entire Indigenous communities by palm oil producers like the Sinar Mas Group.

We need your help to bring the fight to their door. Because that’s all banks care about : their bottom line and their reputation. And that’s exactly why we need them to cut ties completely with these dangerous palm oil producers.

Our strategy is to STOP the flow of money between the world’s largest banks and the world’s biggest forest destroyers — but we can’t do it without your help.

Why should we trust our investments to a bank that’s OK with stealing land ? That says “no problem” to worker abuse and murder? As long as these palm oil producers have funding, they can continue their exploitative and abusive practices.

That’s where you and I come in : we can put these banks and the palm oil producers they finance on notice: we know what you’re doing and we’re not going to let you get away with it.

When you support our campaign work, you help us to be stronger allies with our partners in the field and to expose these corporations’ profits and how they’re really made. We can end rainforest destruction and human rights abuses by cutting off financial support directly at the source.

Unless these banks commit to and prove that they’re protecting rainforests and respecting human rights, our work isn’t done. Fight with us, for the workers and their families and for the communities who are protecting their lands and their livelihoods.

Thank you for supporting our work so that we can continue to fight for justice.

In solidarity,

Ginger Cassady
