U.S (HIP HOP CAUCUS) : This BLACK AUGUST, tell DOJ to RELEASE the FREEDOM FIGHTERS !

It’s Black August, a month that honors Black freedom fighters and political prisoners, and Hip Hop Caucus is calling for all Black and Brown Freedom Fighters to be freed.

Every generation of freedom fighters in America – from protests of the Civil Rights Movement in the 60s to uprisings in the aftermath of George Floyd’s death – has been met with police rioting, tear gas, physical abuse, and bogus arrests. Many of these freedom fighters have been serving as long as 50 years in prison.

These Liberation Fighters who fought back against an unjust justice system and were unfairly targeted for their participation in protests for justice, do not deserve to die in the prison system. And today, we see a new wave of political prisoners emerging. Activists criminalized and even killed for demanding climate justice, racial equity, and human rights.

This Black August, Hip Hop Caucus is uplifting our work to address the ongoing problem of deaths in custody.

TAKE ACTION NOW

Black August honors the culture’s most resilient freedom fighters and works to eliminate the power of the state to inflict harm on our communities.

Nowhere is this harm more apparent than in the glaringly inaccurate data on deaths in custody in this nation. America lacks a comprehensive and accurate count of how many people die in custody and within America’s prisons and jails, yet continues to jail Black and Brown people at disproportionate rates.

This Black August, we’re calling on the U.S. Department of Justice to release the real freedom fighters, not just Trump's billionaire buddies.

No one is free until we’re all free. Take action now.

For future generations,

Team Hip Hop Caucus.
