U.S (STOP THE MONEY PIPELINE) : Tell COTSCO to clean up its credit card with dirty CITIBANK.

Citibank is one of the worst funders of fossil fuels in the world. In fact, Citibank has contributed more money to fossil fuel expansion since 2016 than any other bank in the entire world.

Join us and urge Costco to clean up its co-branded credit card with dirty Citibank.

Unlike Citibank, Costco is committed to climate action and is committed to retaining its diversity and inclusion initiatives. As the third largest retailer in the world, Costco is also a critical client to Citibank. Banks care about retaining their clients, especially ones as large as Costco.

If Costco urges Citibank to clean up its act, or threatens to leave all together - then Citibank will be forced to pursue better climate policies.

Our campaign is making progress. Thousands of Costco members and concerned shoppers have filled out feedback forms, petitioned at Costco warehouses, and sent emails and postcards to Costco leadership. After no action from Costco, dozens of Costco members and shareholders took the brave step of showing up to protest at Costco’s headquarters.

After this protest, Costco’s CEO finally agreed to meet with a representative group of shareholders and members to hear our concerns. We’ve been engaging with leadership ever since, but in order to move Costco to take real action, we need your help.

Tell Costco to offer a credit card that is not destroying the planet.

How can we get Costco to actually take action? To make this a priority for Costco, we need members, employees, shareholders, and concerned shoppers to tell Costco they are concerned about Citibank’s fossil fuel financing.

Like any company, Costco wants to maintain its profits. To do that, Costco has to protect its reputation with its members, employees, shareholders, and potential new customers. If these constituencies speak up, Costco will be forced to listen.

Urge Costco to either encourage Citi to stop funding the destruction of our planet and communities, or else Costco needs to find a better credit card partner.

While Costco is committed to doing the right thing, Costco will only act if we insist this is a priority. And it is a priority: the fossil fuel pollution enabled by Citi is having deadly and devastating impacts, especially in low income communities and Black and Indigenous communities. This undermines Costco’s own commitments to address the climate crisis and advance racial equity.

We need Costco to use its leverage and act now in order to prevent further death and destruction at the hands of the fossil fuel industry. We know sustainable energy is safer and cheaper, and Citibank, as one of the world’s largest funders of the fossil fuel industry, needs to drastically accelerate its transition off of fossil fuels to help save lives and our planet.

We hope you can join us in the fight for a safe and healthy future for all.

In solidarity,

Sarah, Stop the Money Pipeline.
