US (SAVE THE POST OFFICE) : ALL HANDS ON DECK to PROTECT VOTE BY MAIL!

 

Trump’s vote by mail suppression executive order just became an all-hands-on-deck organizing fight. The USPS has proposed a rule to implement Trump’s executive order attacking vote by mail that would require post offices in every state to use a citizenship database created in part by the Department of Homeland Security. The result would illegally block ballots from being sent to any voter not on the list, potentially disenfranchising millions nationwide. If this rule is finalized, it would turn the USPS – a trusted public service – into a tool in the Trump toolbox to undermine vote by mail and lock out voters who have no other option. If we allow Trump to illegally turn the Postal Service into an election administrator, the real fallout will be for millions of seniors, voters with disabilities, rural communities, Tribal and Indigenous communities, students, military families, caregivers, and working people who rely on the post office to cast their ballots. We’re moving fast to stop it from happening. We’re alerting voters who rely on mail ballots, working with postal union and democracy allies, exposing the real danger buried in the technical language, and making sure USPS leadership hears from the public by flooding the public comment period, before they try to finalize this rule. This is exactly the kind of fight the Save the Post Office Coalition was built to take on. We’re mounting the pushback to help stop this before it becomes policy, but we need the resources to win.
