US (STOP THE MONEY PIPELINE) : TAKE ACTION, STOP the DIRTY DATA CENTER DEAL!
This morning, New Yorkers showed up in force at the doorstep of Senator Chuck Schumer to demand that he oppose a dirty energy permitting deal before Congress right now.
The Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act (aka: the Dirty Data Center Deal) is a back-door deal that represents a massive power grab by the fossil fuel industry and Big Tech.
If passed, this bill would gut key aspects of foundational environmental laws like the Clean Water Act, National Environmental Policy Act, Endangered Species Act, and the National Historic Preservation Act, and make it easier to build new AI data centers and fossil fuel projects that pollute our air, water, and climate.
This disastrous bill would fast-track plans to build AI data centers and fossil fuel projects –– even in the face of clear community opposition. It would enable Big Tech and Big Oil to ride roughshod over communities, polluting our air and water with chemicals that increase the risk of asthma, cancer, and premature deaths, worsen the climate crisis, and put threatened species at risk of vanishing forever.
But if thousands of us speak up right now, we can still stop this.
This dirty deal was negotiated behind closed doors, and the Senate intends to bypass processes that help the public understand its impacts. They’re rushing to pass this deal next month and could vote on it as early as this Monday, November 9th.
The Senate is counting on secrecy and speed to push this bill through before we understand what’s coming. But we all deserve a say in what gets built in our communities, especially when these projects exacerbate the climate crisis and pollute our air, water, and increase risks to public health.
