U.S (Color Of Change) : CHIP-IN to POWER the PROSECUTOR ACCOUNTABILITY MOVEMENT.

Dear friend,

There's a lot happening in the world, so this will only take a moment of your time.

I'm reaching out because I know you’re dedicated to achieving true justice for Black people. That's why we need you to know what's happening within our movement to hold prosecutors accountable across the country.

Decades of racist policing, unjustified overcharging, and brutal prosecution have separated people from their loved ones and incarcerated millions destroying the lives of Black families. None of this has stopped violence and harm in our communities.

Nevertheless, we’ve seen local and state governments ramp up policing while actively divesting in public services, leaving our people without housing stability, food security, etc.

The opposition wants us to give-in to their racist dog whistling and fear mongering about rising crime rates. They want to undermine the efforts of reform-minded district attorneys and send us back to a "tough on crime" era. But at Color Of Change, we’re fighting back, and we need your help to keep that fight going.

You've been with us every step of the way and now more than ever we need you to continue in your support. Will you take action to keep our prosecutor accountability work funded ?

For years little was known about the power of local prosecutors until we, along with our partners across the country, decided to be intentional about informing our members about the prosecutor’s role in driving mass incarceration.

In the last few months, the attacks on our movement have been relentless. In New York, newly elected Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is facing calls for the end of his term just as he's beginning to implement policies that have an equitable approach to bail, charging, and sentencing.1 In San Francisco, DA Chesa Boudin is facing a recall effort on June 7th.2 And in Los Angeles, stakeholders have launched a second attempt at certifying a recall of DA George Gascon.3 The opposition will stop at nothing to regain control of the police to surveil and brutalize our neighbors while returning to  “tough on crime” policies.

White supremacy is alive and well and is refusing to go away without a fight. We need to do everything within our power to push back.

We aren't giving up, friend. As a matter of fact, we’re doubling down on our efforts. Because we're fighting to reimagine public safety so that our children don't have to go to police-ridden schools, and we never again have to endure violent police intervention in our homes and communities. We deserve to be safe while going on a bike ride or a jog. We deserve to be seen as fully-fledged human beings rather than targeted and criminalized or perceived as a threat.

It’s up to us to demand solutions that would aid in the healing and rehabilitation of our people, and we need your help. Friend, we need you to take your support a step further. We’re inviting you to chip in to our prosecutor accountability work today. Will you join us ?
