In two days, it’s National Oreo Day. You might not be celebrating — but Mondelēz certainly will. And that gives us an opportunity. The company created Oreo Day to generate buzz around its flagship brand, the delicious cookie with a sinister ingredients list. This year, we’re taking that spotlight back with events in cities across the U.S. to expose Mondelēz’ terrible deforestation and human rights record. Before the celebrations begin, we need your help getting their attention. |
Our demand is simple: Mondelēz must adopt common-sense human rights safeguards across its supply chains. There have been allegations of violence and intimidation of frontline communities linked to its operations, including land grabbing and forced evictions — yet the company still refuses to strengthen its protections for land defenders. Will you help us show Mondelēz that thousands of customers expect better? Our collective voices cannot be ignored. |
Mondelēz also has a serious deforestation problem. Late last year, RAN and our partners uncovered evidence that the company was sourcing palm oil from illegally cleared peatlands in Sumatra, Indonesia — an area known as the Orangutan Capital of the World. When we brought this to their attention, they stayed silent. So we've been cranking up the pressure. Now it’s time they heard from you. |
Rather than fixing its problems, Mondelēz keeps making them worse. Last year, the company, along with others in the industry, lobbied the EU to delay its landmark anti-deforestation law, the European Union Deforestation Regulation. And the EU caved. We’ve had enough. As their biggest brand-holiday approaches, let’s make sure Mondelēz hears exactly how we feel. In solidarity, |
