Every fossil fuel project harms communities both near and far — causing pollution and climate disasters. There are currently 3 large LNG terminals in Southwest Louisiana — that means toxic chemicals like arsenic, benzene, formaldehyde, lead and mercury in people’s backyards — that have already done irreversible harm to local communities and wildlife.2 CP2, CP3 & Plaquemines LNG are 3 more LNG expansion projects planned for the same area. Recently, major financial institutions like Bank of America, JPMorgan, PNC, Wells Fargo, Goldman Sachs, Barclays, MUFG, and Mizuho provided a combined $8.6 BILLION of financing for CP2 to be finished.3 This makes it even more imperative that we show up for those most impacted by LNG infrastructure. We know that protecting the Gulf and our shared climate starts with protecting the rights of the people who live there — the fenceline and Indigenous communities fighting on the frontlines of fossil fuel expansion. That’s why we joined with community members to confront CERAWeek – aka the Super Bowl of oil and gas conferences – where fossil fuel companies, banks, and politicians gather to make decisions about the future of fossil fuels behind closed doors. Join in making an impact by taking action in solidarity with the communities most affected by climate and the financial crisis. Tell these companies the Gulf is not a sacrifice zone. |
