Dear friend,
What does grassroots mean to you? Today is RANday — our annual day of giving and action. And this year, we’re celebrating grassroots power because it’s only through collective action that we can sustain the fight for a just and livable planet. The more I witness grassroots power in action, the more convinced I become that this is how change happens. Last year, after years of relentless pressure from RAN, our partners, and activists in the streets, Procter & Gamble finally strengthened its forest and human rights policies. That shift didn’t start in a boardroom. It started with everyday people who believed they could win — and did. And right now, corporations and financial institutions are doubling down on climate destruction and human rights abuses. But we know something they don’t: Organized people can beat organized money. Grassroots power can beat corporate power. Just a couple of weeks ago, organizers in multiple cities stood outside stores calling on Oreo’s parent company, Mondelēz, to stop driving deforestation. There were banners, petitions, conversations with customers — and behind every single action was something quieter, but just as powerful: Our Network. And you. That’s what RANday is about: the people behind every investigation, every frontline fight, every action that raises visibility and drives banks and brands to change course. |
