U.S : There is no place for the NRA in our schools !

Friend : Late last month, The New York Times highlighted a pressing issue threatening students in schools across the nation: Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC) instructors promoting the National Rifle Association (NRA).[1]

New York Times headline: In Public Schools, the NRA gets a boost from the Junior ROTC

This is inappropriate and irresponsible — and it puts the safety and well-being of students at risk. Congress can stop this from happening, but they won’t stand up to the NRA without pressure from activists like you, friend.

Demand Congress act now to ban JROTC instructors from promoting the NRA in our schools.

Here are just a few reasons that promoting NRA in our schools is a problem :

  • The NRA has a long history of opposing common-sense gun control measures, such as background checks and limits on assault weapons.
  • The group incites numerous controversies and engages in many corrupt practices, such as accepting donations from gun manufacturers and using those funds to lobby against gun control measures. This conflict of interest puts gun manufacturers' profits ahead of our children's safety.
  • Allowing JROTC instructors to promote the NRA in our schools sends a message to our students that gun violence is acceptable.

The NRA acts to protect and promote the interests of gun manufacturers, NOT the safety and well-being of our students. Ensuring weapons of war — like assault rifles — stay on our streets won’t make any community safer. This news is just one more reminder that our current 'national security' strategy has not protected our children.

The promotion of the NRA in our schools is not only inappropriate, but also a serious threat to the safety and well-being of our students. We must push for necessary changes to protect our students, and that starts with taking on the NRA’s presence in public schools.

Tell Congress to ban JROTC instructors from promoting the NRA in our schools.

Together, we can make a difference and create a safer and more inclusive environment in our schools. Please help push this country away from policies that promote violence, and instead invest in safety for our communities and kids by adding your name to our petition today.

Thank you for working for peace,

Sara and the Win Without War team

U.S (NATIVE ORGANIZERS ALLIANCE ACTION FUND) : Cuts to Social Security and Medicare would disproportionately impact Native peoples.

Friend,

MAGA Republicans, including House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and Senator John Thune, Mitch McConnell’s #2 in the Senate, are using the debt ceiling as an opportunity to extort President Biden and threaten the stability of our most essential Federal programs like Social Security and Medicare.

Now, a broad coalition of activists have come together to apply pressure to members of Congress to pledge to never vote to cut Social Security or Medicare. And we already have firm pledges from more than 200 members of Congress -- Democrats and Republicans alike.

Tribal members receive Social Security benefits at a lower rate than the general population, with even wider gaps existing among Natives with disabilities. We know that poverty rates among Native peoples ages 65 and older are higher than the national average and that our community relies more heavily on critical programs like Social Security and Medicare to meet our everyday needs.[1]

With right-wing Republicans demanding cuts to our earned benefits, this is a reminder that federal funding of Indian Country is usually one of the first items on the chopping block.

Right now, we have momentum to stop MAGA Republicans from holding our economy hostage in exchange for cuts to our earned benefits. Click here to take action today and demand members of Congress take the pledge to never cut Social Security or Medicare!

ADD YOUR NAME

MAGA Republicans holding our Social Security and Medicaid benefits hostage just so the U.S. government can pay its bills is an outrageous proposition, especially when cuts to Social Security will undoubtedly impact Indigenous peoples at a higher rate than the average population.

But it’s not just Social Security that’s at risk. For decades, Native healthcare programs have been severely underfunded. According to an analysis by the National Congress of American Indians, funding for Indian Health Services would have to double just to match the level of healthcare provided to federal prisoners, and we’d need an even larger investment to match the benefits guaranteed to Medicaid recipients.[2]

As a result of a lack of investment in Native healthcare services, Indigenous people have a lower average life expectancy than the rest of the U.S. population.[2]

Take action today! Keep the pressure on members of Congress to take the pledge to never cut Social Security or Medicare.

Hawwih (thank you) for fighting back against conservative attempts to hold our earned benefits hostage.

Je me suis aimé

Et j’ai rêvé de notre rencontre.

Mon récit est mien,

Ton attitude et ses frontières

Me dévisagent.

Un verre de trop,

Une gorgée de plus,

Le fatras de mes entrailles

A l’assaut du verbe vivre

Sur les ailes de Pégase.

L’Andalousie me rend utile.
