Postmaster General David Steiner apparently needs to be reminded what’s the United States Postal Service’s most important job: Deliver the mail – Not bend the knee to Donald Trump. Trump’s PMG has finalized a rule that would allow the USPS to refuse ballot mail when states do not comply with new federal requirements. However, even after a Supreme Court decision added new chaos to the on-going litigation — including on-again off-again injunctions and restraining orders — Steiner’s USPS is blocked from moving forward with its plan to implement Trump’s voter suppression scheme — for now. Still, all of this legal uncertainty so close to the 2026 midterm election showed us exactly why we can’t depend on the courts to protect voting by mail, strengthening the need for the Board of Governors to act. Steiner has no intention of dropping this attack on vote by mail voluntarily. He's already finalized the USPS rule so it can be implemented quickly the second the courts give him the opportunity. That tells us everything we need to know. We have to force him to back down.
