This year, with your help, we finally won an update to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) that boosts SNAP food benefits by 15 percent for families nationwide, but that update is set to expire in just a couple of months.
Just imagine losing much-needed food dollars that you and your family have been counting on. This is why kids end up going to school hungry, parents are forced to water down their food, and seniors go without dinner.
The timing of the benefits rollback would be terrible. COVID-19, and the resulting hunger and economic crisis, is far from over.
In the last year, demand at food banks in the Feeding America network more than doubled as many people turned to food banks and food assistance programs for the first time. This year, more than 42 million people, including 13 million children, could face food insecurity due to the pandemic. Food banks alone cannot meet the need.
The increased SNAP benefit helps provide critical meals for families each month. Please take a minute to send a message to your lawmakers: Don’t let the 15 percent SNAP increase lapse.
