Every day that passes in America is another day we pay premiums, co-pays, and medical debt.
Every day families go bankrupt from medical debt and people refuse the care they need because it’s too expensive.
And every day during a pandemic that has killed more than 500,000 Americans, one thing is pretty clear: Health care in America cannot go on as it is today.
That’s why Be A Hero — founded in 2017 by activist Ady Barkan — is on a mission to pass guaranteed universal single-payer health care in the United States through any available path. Because, friend, single-payer health care isn’t just some nice idea. It’s an absolute necessity.
Yes, I Support Single-Payer Health Care!
Friend, we know no one single-payer health care bill is guaranteed to pass into law.
That’s why we fight for every opportunity we have, large or small, to get guaranteed universal single-payer coverage to as many people as we can — nationally, through Medicare for All, or in pieces state-by-state.
Here’s what we’re working on :
Medicare for All : Partnering with National Nurses United, we are starting an aggressive organizing campaign to push Sen. Bernie Sanders’ and Rep. Pramilla Jayapal’s bill for passage in all 50 states
Statewide Single-Payer : In addition to national Medicare for All, we are supporting state legislatures that have the opportunity to pass single-payer at the state level — for example, the Campaign for New York Health Care
State Public Options : We need to increase competition to weaken the insurance companies’ power, and state-based public options provide that route. Washington State is the first state to enact a public option, and we’re supporting efforts in Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, Oregon and elsewhere
Lowering the Medicare Eligibility Age to 55 : Medicare could be expanded to include all Americans over 55 today, Medicare for all children next, and eventually Medicare for All. We’re starting a national advocacy campaign to pressure Congress into lowering Medicare eligibility
Look, every single-payer bill in every legislature, every Congressional hearing, every county or city council meeting where we live is an opportunity to push America closer to guaranteed universal single-payer health care for everyone.
That’s why Be A Hero is building a broad coalition of online supporters who support guaranteed universal single-payer health care. The more folks we can rely on, the stronger our collective struggle for single-payer health care will be.
