US (SAVE THE POST OFFICE) : TRUMP wants USPS to block ballots. Reject his board nominees!

 

Trump picked four rich corporate insider nominees for the USPS Board of Governors in an attempted takeover of the cherished public institution, older than the nation itself, that is also responsible for carrying millions of ballots during the midterm elections. We made enough noise that two of the nominees never made it to a hearing, but the other two – Jeffrey Brodsky and William Gallo – were just voted through committee and the entire Senate will soon vote to confirm or reject them. This is our last chance to stop Trump from dominating the postal board and taking a giant step forward on his election interference schemes, as well as everything from price hikes and delivery slowdowns to privatization. Trump wants a Postal Service that follows his political orders and prepares itself for a corporate sell-off. The Senate can stop him. Before Trump’s board picks gain power over election mail, postal prices, and the future of universal service, sign and send a direct message demanding your Senators reject Brodsky and Gallo for the USPS Board of Governors now. SIGN AND SEND Brodsky has spent 30 years in the corporate restructuring world, treating distressed companies as projects to be cut apart, reorganized, and squeezed for investors — a literal privatization expert. Gallo comes from commodities trading and private business. Neither one has any postal experience, much less a record of defending universal service, postal workers, affordable service, rural delivery, or election mail. Instead, their qualification is the same as almost everyone else in this administration: Loyalty to Trump. That means, these corporate stooges are ready and willing to do whatever Trump wants regardless of the impact on one of the most trusted, effective, and respected public services in the country – so important it was written into the Constitution. The postal board controls the policy decisions, financials, service standards, and long-term direction of USPS. It also has sole hire/fire power over the Postmaster General. The price of a stamp just climbed from 78 cents to 82 cents while postal customers continue facing network changes and slower delivery. Handing greater power to Trump’s lapdog nominees would risk more of the same failed model of higher prices and diminished service we saw under Louis DeJoy – on steroids. A FedEx-linked Postmaster General already runs USPS. Add a board dominated by Trump’s corporate insider and donor appointees poised to keep slowing the mail, consolidating post offices, and outsourcing to work toward privatization, and you have a recipe for disaster. A Trump-dominated board will almost certainly weaken protections for election mail, putting vote by mail at risk for the midterms. Rural communities, Indigenous communities, seniors, veterans, small businesses, postal workers, and voters would pay the price while private shipping corporations claim the profitable pieces.
