In another brutal escalation of their war on immigrants, the Trump Administration is on the verge of ending Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for approximately 350,000 Haitians and 4,000 Syrians currently in the United States. Deportations could begin on Monday. As a result of this racist policy, families will be separated, local economies will take a hit and thousands of people will be forced back to countries in the grip of violence, instability and humanitarian collapse. In response, our partners at the National Partnership for New Americans are organizing a rapid response call for climate activists on Thursday, July 30th at 3:00 - 4:30 PM PT / 4:00 - 530 PM MT / 5:00 - 630 PM CT / 6:00 - 730 PM ET. On the call, climate justice, immigrant rights, and Haitian leaders will share about the climate justice dimensions of Temporary Protected Status and how climate movement activists and groups can support this fight right now. It’s no coincidence that Haiti and Syria are two of the most climate impacted countries in the world, and there's a lot the climate movement can do to show up for this fight, right now. The call is being organized by a coalition that includes Communities United for Status and Protection, Haitian Bridge Alliance, NYU Law Center for Human Rights and Global Justice, and Center for Gender and Refugee Studies, as well as the National Partnership for New Americans.
