Friend,       This week’s Uprising playlist takes us back to California late in the 1980s into the 1990s where artists like Dr. Dre, Suge Knight, Warren G, 2Pac, and many others were running the game.   Welcome to the G-Funk era.   Known as “Gangsta-Funk”—this smooth sounding sub-genre of Hip Hop was inspired heavily by 70’s funk music, but with an added Hip Hop flavor. After making its debut on Dr. Dre’s first solo album, The Chronic, released in 1992, G-Funk has grown to inspire generations of West Coast rappers and beyond.       And that’s exactly what Hip Hop is about—inspiring, admiring, and continuing the communal act of creation.
