US (STOP THE MONEY PIPELINE) : These are FOSSIL FUEL and GREED-DRIVEN CLIMATE DISASTERS.

My heart is breaking, once again, as we begin another season of climate disasters.

Europe is being hit with record-breaking levels of heat, early estimates indicate more than 12,000 people likely died in the heat in just three days last month. Here in the United States, a historic heat wave has baked the East Coast and wildfires have erupted across the West, especially in Utah and Colorado, with millions on high-alert as we brace for more extreme heat and fires.

And yet, as I read the stories about these climate disasters, they are often missing a crucial piece: any mention of the corporations and executives responsible for this crisis, the fossil fuel industry and its enablers.

It boggles my mind that at the same time as millions are suffering from climate disasters, Elon Musk becomes a trillionaire, the Trump administration expands and deregulates the fossil fuel industry, and big banks continue to funnel billions to new coal, oil, and gas.

Even the insurance industry continues to insure new fossil fuel projects that will lock in only more climate chaos. At the same time, they’re increasing property insurance premiums for everyday Americans so they can pay their CEOs’ millions.

But then I realized that this is not a coincidence. This is exactly why these crises are happening: billionaires have bought our politicians and our media to advance their one goal: get richer and more powerful, regardless of the cost to people and the planet.

Can you make a donation today so that, together, we can address the root cause of this crisis: the fossil fuel industry and the corporations and wealthy elite that prop it up.

I feel lucky that I work at Stop the Money Pipeline because, every day, I get to figure out how we can best do our part to dismantle the power of the fossil fuel industry.

Let’s be clear: getting some of the largest financial institutions in the world to sever their ties with Big Oil is a HUGE challenge. It requires strategic multi-year campaigning, knowing our role, and figuring out which institutions we can move in order to move the needle forward towards our goal.

That’s why we are running campaigns to move major clients of banks to our side, such as our campaign to push Costco to dump Citibank, a move that would see Citi lose more than 13 million credit card customers.

It’s why we’re running legislative campaigns such as Insure Our Communities, a campaign which would force insurance companies operating in New York to stop underwriting new fossil fuel projects.

When you make a donation to Stop the Money Pipeline, this is the work that you're supporting. Whether you can chip in $5 or $500, make a donation today and support this critical work.

The only way we'll be able to rein in climate disasters like the ones we're experiencing right now is our ability to run targeted, strategic, multi-year campaigns to challenge the power of the fossil fuel industry.

By making a donation, you’re making this work possible.

In solidarity,

- Sarah, Stop the Money Pipeline.
