U.S (HIP HOP CAUCUS) : FACEBOOK, YOUTUBE, GOOGLE & TWEETER must COMBAT CLIMATE CHANGE DISINFORMATION on their platforms.

Friend,

Social media has fundamentally changed the way we receive and share news, and yet disinformation continues to spread like wildfire across social media platforms. One of the most harmful things being spread across social media is lies about the seriousness of the climate crisis.

Let’s be clear : the climate crisis is very real, and it’s already impacted millions of Black, Brown, and Indigenous people living in frontline communities. When content claiming the climate crisis isn’t real or exaggerated spreads across the internet, it’s these communities that face the consequences.

We’re sending a message to the CEOs of Facebook, Tiktok, Google, Youtube, and Twitter to combat climate change disinformation on their platforms! Add your name >>

We know that when people come together on social media platforms and demand change, elected officials answer. Addressing the disinformation being spread about the climate crisis should be no different. Here’s what we’re sending to the CEOs of these major social media companies :

"Platforms owe it to their users and the planet to stop amplifying the climate disinformation that undermines our ability to combat the climate crisis. Social media companies like yours must take concrete steps in stopping climate change disinformation."

A large group of environmental and tech accountability organizations including Greenpeace, 350.org, Friends of the Earth, and Accountable Tech just called on prominent social media companies to take steps in regulating climate disinformation on their platforms.

This letter comes in the wake of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change deeming "climate disinformation a threat to the world's ability to effectively address [the planetary crisis]."

Add your name to our petition today and tell social media companies to stop the spread of disinformation on their platforms! >>
