Private equity firms have been treating our economy like their personal piggy bank for far too long. They buy up companies, saddle them with debt, strip them of assets, and then walk away with massive profits — leaving workers, communities, and our economy to deal with the fallout. The Stop Wall Street Looting Act, led by Senator Elizabeth Warren and Representatives Pocan, Jayapal, and Landsman, would put an end to these predatory practices. This comprehensive bill would: Hold private equity firms accountable for the debts and legal judgments of companies they control Protect workers by prioritizing their wages and benefits when companies go bankrupt End extractive practices that allow firms to loot companies for short-term profits Increase transparency and oversight of private equity activities The private equity industry is already lobbying hard to kill this bill.
