The Supreme Court let a lower court injunction stand which slammed the brakes on Trump’s Postal Service scheme to choke vote by mail for the 2026 midterms. But we know Trump will not rest in his attempts to undermine democracy and use the Postal Service to do his bidding in the process. We also know Postmaster General Steiner is eager to immediately work to implement Trump’s voter suppression plan. We can’t just rely on the courts to save the post office and protect vote by mail. Only the Postal Board of Governors can guarantee this plan is stopped. Only the Board of Governors is responsible for setting and overseeing the policy and practice that ensures the timely delivery of every mail-in ballot. The Board has ultimate control of all Postal Service operations and finances. Trump knows if he has complete control over the Board, he’ll get to control how mail-in voting happens. Jeffrey Brodsky and William Gallo are still pending confirmation to the Board of Governors. The Senate has not voted, but they might rush them through in the final hours before going home early on recess. These men come out of corporate finance and dealmaking, not public service. Confirming them would give Trump exactly what he wants.
A Board packed with Trump-aligned members will give him the cover he wants and needs to keep attacking vote by mail and implement his voter suppression plan. It’s also the path to undermine and privatize the post office. Senators need to keep hearing from us before Senate leadership tries to rush these nominees to the floor. Public pressure has stopped Trump’s Postal Board slates before. We can stop Brodsky and Gallo if we act now.
