Friend,

Did you know there are a host of small, primarily Black communities in North Carolina whose air is tinged with the smell of pig excrement from the surrounding factory farms, or that the factories in the Louisiana parishes of St. James and St. John the Baptist released more carcinogens in 2014 than 96% of the rest of the counties in the United States ?

For these communities and many other minority and low-income neighborhoods, the hope of breathing clean air and access to clean water is a reality that only exists on the other side of the tracks.

Can you sign the petition from our friends at CREDO Mobile urging Congress to make environmental justice a priority ?

It’s time to put an end to environmental racism. Tell Congress to pass the Environmental Justice Act now. Sign our petition.

Not all of us are affected by pollution equally. Environmental injustice – the lack of equal protection from environmental hazards – means that poor and minority communities usually get the brunt of the maladies caused by air pollution, contaminated water, and chemical spills.

Even Trump’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) admitted as much in a report, acknowledging that people of color are much more likely to live near polluters and breathe polluted air. Unfortunately, they were unwilling to do anything about it. In fact, during the Trump years, the agency continued to dismantle environmental protections that had helped diminish these effects.

We need to bring an end to environmental racism and discrimination for America’s most disadvantaged communities. That’s why we must pass the Environmental Justice Act, a crucial bill in Congress that would force federal agencies to address these disparities and create legal protections against environmental injustice for vulnerable communities.

All Americans – not just the well-off – deserve access to clean air and water. But that sentiment is far from a reality for the millions of people in the United States who suffer in silence, enduring shorter life spans, poisoned water, and blackened lungs from corporate polluters right outside their doors.

This must end. Sign CREDO Mobile’s petition and tell Congress to make environmental justice a priority. Tell them to pass the Environmental Justice Act.

Thanks for taking action.
