U.S (UltraViolet) : Help FIGHT RIGHT-WING DISINFORMATION ONLINE.

Dear friend,

The latest ranking of the top sources of "news and information" on Facebook just came out, and the results are terrifying.1

The five news sources with the most engagement on Facebook are pro-Trump accounts full of conspiracy theories, racism, sexism, and disinformation : Dan Bongino, Newsmax, Breitbart, TruthFeed, and Trending Politics.

This is why most Trump voters think the 2020 election was rigged and why nearly half say they won't get the COVID-19 vaccine.2,3 And it contributes directly to the epidemic of racism and sexist harassment, especially of women of color, on social media.

UltraViolet has been leading the battle against right-wing disinformation online, and it's been working.

But it's clear that even with Trump banned on Facebook, the threat is growing. To help turn up the heat on Facebook and other news outlets, we're running ads calling out the far-right lies they continue to tolerate and, if we can raise enough money, will commission a survey to show how many women have left social media due to sexist harassment.

Will you donate $5 to help pressure Facebook and other social media platforms to shut down far-right disinformation on their platforms once and for all?

The study by New York University's Cybersecurity for Democracy project finds that far-right pages get double or even triple the engagement of centrist and progressive news sources--and false right-wing news stories get the most engagement of all.4

Dan Bongino is the anti-mask conspiracy theorist who calls the COVID-19 vaccine "witch-doctorism." He got his start on Alex Jones's notorious InfoWars website and is now the first source of "news and information" on Facebook.5

Facebook's algorithms are notorious for promoting the most polarizing content, pushing hot-button conspiracy theories into people's news feeds to get as many clicks as possible--because more clicks means more ad revenue for Facebook.

We saw on January 6 how dangerous the right-wing disinformation ecosystem has become, and we must continue to fight back.

We've run ads around Facebook's Bay Area corporate headquarters and met directly with top social media platforms to demand they crack down on far-right disinformation. But the problem is only getting worse. If we can reach our fundraising goals, we can turn up the pressure with more ads and by commissioning polling and research documenting the misogynistic harassment women are experiencing on social media. Will you donate $5 ?

Yes, I'll donate $5 and help fight right-wing disinformation online.

Thank you for fighting to end right-wing disinformation.
