Hi friend,
You’ve probably felt it already. Prices are rising, and governments are preparing for possible oil shortages.
For many of us, it’s worrying. But manageable. For children living in crisis, it’s something else entirely.
Right now, as conflict continues in the Middle East, rising oil prices are quietly making it harder to deliver life-saving aid to the children who need it most.
In fact, for every $5 increase in oil prices, we risk losing the equivalent of one month of support for nearly 40,000 children.
Because when fuel costs go up, everything becomes more expensive. Transporting food. Delivering medicine. Reaching families in remote or dangerous areas.
It means:
- Fewer children treated for severe malnutrition.
- Fewer medical supplies reaching clinics.
- Fewer essentials like food, blankets, and hygiene kits for families who have already lost everything.
We are already seeing this impact.
In some places, shipping costs have risen by more than 20%. In others, vital supplies are delayed, leaving hundreds of thousands of children waiting.
And beyond rising costs, aid is being delayed too. Right now, critical supplies for over 410,000 children are stuck due to disrupted delivery routes.
For children already living through crisis, these delays and shortages can be devastating.
As Willem Zuidema, our Global Supply Chain Director, explains:
"Every extra dollar we have to spend due to higher oil prices is a dollar we are not spending on the children who need us."
This is the reality we are facing. But it’s also why your support matters so much.
Because even when the situation becomes more complex, your generosity helps us keep going, reaching children who need us most.
Thank you for standing with children, especially in moments like this.
With gratitude,
