I don’t have to remind you, dear friend, that extinction is permanent. And right now, when there are more tigers in captivity than in the wild, these are the stakes. Our damaged planet will not heal so quickly if we don’t protect it now. The Javan and Bali tigers have already gone extinct. They’re gone forever. Will you help keep Sumatran tigers from disappearing too? |

The land which is home to the fewer than 400 remaining Sumatran tigers is being ransacked and sacrificed for the production of Conflict Palm Oil, a major ingredient in products ranging from candy and cookies to household cleaners to shampoo. And if we don’t act to stop deforestation at the source, it will continue to happen in critical forest habitats around the planet. That land, the Leuser Ecosystem in Sumatra, is a place unlike any in the world — and it’s incredibly fragile. No apex predator can stand up against a bulldozer, no tree can put out a fire. This ecosystem is also the only place where those tigers live alongside elephants, orangutans, and rhinos. And if we are to celebrate International Tiger Day in the years to come, we need to make sure that the next generation of tigers, not just the Sumatran tigers of the Leuser, can continue to survive. On days like these, we learn and remind ourselves of the beauty, and irreplaceability, of the world we’re working to save. |
Rainforest Action Network (RAN) is working tirelessly to hold the world’s largest corporations responsible for using the Conflict Palm Oil that threatens the Leuser Ecosystem. Can we count on your help in this fight? Pressuring corporate giants like Mondelēz to get Conflict Palm Oil out of their supply chains takes time and strength. After years of campaign pressure from Rainforest Action Network, along with our supporters and allies, Procter & Gamble now requires palm oil suppliers to have a No Deforestation, No Peatland, and No Exploitation (NDPE) policy. That is a huge win. But get this: that policy stops short of requiring the corporate groups it does business with to adhere to its policy across their entire operations. So producers doing business with P&G are also managing or profiting from dodgy shadow companies that commit deforestation and rights abuses. That’s bad news for a lot more than just tigers. All of our progress up to this point has been thanks to you — help us again. We’re not going to be scared of corporate deforesters: we’re going to fight them, and we’re going to win! |
P.S. If you’d like to learn more about the Leuser Ecosystem and how your partnership with RAN has made a difference in the region, join us for a very special webinar on September 11. Registration is free! Sign up today! |
