One of our staff, Mohamed (*), shared that his neighbour — a father of four — was forced to go to a distribution site because his family had nothing left. He was shot and killed.
“ Children are also being killed and injured trying to reach aid – aid they have a right to. Other families tell us they are now too weak to compete to pick up food. What is happening here is nothing short of abhorrent.” said our Regional Director, Ahmad Alhendawi.
This is not how humanitarian aid should work, and it must be urgently replaced by a lawful, safe, and dignified response led by experienced humanitarian actors.
We are doing everything we can. We’re currently operating a primary health centre in Deir Al-Balah. Our teams also deliver lifesaving water, run child-friendly spaces that offer safe places for children to play and receive psychosocial support, and set up temporary learning centres to help children continue their education during the crisis, all under constant threat.
