There are four members on the USPS Board right now: two Democrats, one Republican, and one independent. Trump has four Republican nominees moving through the Senate. Confirm them, and the Board becomes five Republicans, two Democrats, and one independent. That means Trump gets the majority he has been trying to build since his first term, with power over the decisions that determine whether USPS remains a public service or gets pushed further toward corporate capture and privatization. And power over what happens with election mail for the midterms this fall. Trump has spent years attacking the Postal Service, trying to weaken it to prime it for privatization, pressuring the Board to install postal leadership friendly to corporate shippers, and now escalating his attack on vote by mail. His executive order targeting mail ballots could turn USPS into a political tool used to block eligible voters from receiving ballots in the first place. Trump wants this rushed through quietly. We need to make sure every Senator knows the public is watching.
These nominees have given the public no reason to trust them with one of America’s most essential public institutions. They are wealthy corporate Trump donors, financiers, and political allies with no record of defending universal service, postal workers, affordable delivery, rural access, or election mail. Anthony Lomangino is a Trump megadonor from the same donor universe that keeps trying to buy public power and turn it into private profit. The rest of the slate comes out of corporate finance, restructuring, trading, and dealmaking. That background matters because privatization starts with the same language every time: efficiency, modernization, consolidation, restructuring. The consequences of privatization would be devastating. Slower mail. Higher prices. Closed post offices. Fewer delivery days. This would leave rural towns, Indigenous communities, seniors, veterans, small businesses, and working families with fewer options that are way more expensive. And a Trump-controlled Postal Board, paired with a FedEx-linked Postmaster General he installed himself and an executive order attacking mail ballots, creates a direct threat to the people who rely on USPS to cast their ballot by mail. Trump knows this. It’s not a coincidence this is all happening now before the midterms. Thank you for standing up for the people’s Postal Service. - Annie and the Save the Post Office Coalition Team.
