Measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, the earthquakes have caused widespread destruction, damaging buildings and critical infrastructure across affected areas. Communications and power have been cut in some communities, and rescuers are racing to reach people feared trapped beneath collapsed structures.
Many families have fled damaged homes and are sheltering outside as aftershocks continue. Some children may have been separated from their families in the chaos. Others face an uncertain night without safe shelter, likely cut off from clean water, food, or access to healthcare.
The full scale of the disaster is still emerging, but we know from experience that children will need urgent support right now.
We are already responding, assessing needs and working to support affected children and families. We've released emergency funds to help kickstart the response, but much more support will be needed in the days ahead.
Your gift to Save the Children's Emergency Fund can help provide lifesaving support, including shelter, food, clean water, healthcare, and protection for children caught up in emergencies like this.
