Indonesia (INTERNATIONAL ELEPHANT PROJECT) : Dear friend, you SAVED a BABY ELEPHANT’s life.

Hello friend,

Because of you, a wild elephant calf has been freed from a snare, and given a second chance at a safe and healthy life in the forest.

Recently, our team spotted something worrying while reviewing trail camera footage in Way Kambas National Park in Sumatra. A tiny elephant calf, around one year old, had a rope snare tightly wrapped around both his front and back legs. Without help, the injuries most likely would have become deadly.

In the video below, you can see the heartbreaking moment our team discovered the calf had been caught in a snare.

Thanks to your support, we were able to act immediately.

It took 10 long days of searching through dense forest to find the calf and his herd. When our teams finally reached him, they worked quickly and carefully to avoid causing excessive stress, or separating him from his mother for too long.

The calf was treated right there in the forest. While the vets treated the calf, his mother stayed close by. Our experienced team helped keep her at a safe distance, protecting both her calf and the rescue team.

Thankfully, the snare was made of rope, not wire. The wounds were painful, but not deep. The team carefully removed the rope, cleaned the wounds, treated infection, and gave the calf long-lasting antibiotics to help him heal.
The painful rope snare, tightly wound around this innocent calf’s leg.
And then came the moment we were all hoping for.

As soon as treatment was finished, the calf was gently guided back to his waiting mother, who he rejoined immediately. By the next morning, our teams confirmed that mother and calf had fully rejoined the herd. They did such a fantastic job to achieve such a wonderful outcome!

This rescue happened because of your support, friend.

Your generosity gives our teams the training, equipment, and support they need to respond when animals are in danger. You didn’t just help remove a snare. You gave a young elephant a second chance at life in the wild.

Thank you for standing with elephants when they need us most.

P.S.
Snares are silent, hidden killers. With your continued support, we can keep patrols active, remove traps, and save more elephants from a deadly fate, before it’s too late.
