Dear friend,
2020 is (finally !) drawing to a close, and we have many victories to celebrate.
Donald Trump is out, and Kamala Harris, the first Black woman in the White House, is in ! Social media platforms changed their policies to fight misinformation. Black Lives Matter has become a rallying cry, from members of Congress to the NFL.
UltraViolet members banded together for progress, and we were able to reach more people than ever before. In 2021, we’re going to take on racism and misogyny head-on, and we need your help to make it happen.
Yes, I’ll donate to help UltraViolet fight for a more inclusive world in 2021.
UltraViolet is a small, nimble team of feminists that platforms a community of more than 1 million people for political and social revolution. Here are just a few of the amazing strides we were able to make in 2020, and where we will take them in 2021 :
- During the 2020 election, we secured a guarantee of a woman of color moderator for every debate cycle. We pressured Joe Biden to promise to select a woman running mate, and we reached more than 1 million young women of color voters in swing states--including in Spanish. Now we’re fighting to win the two outstanding Senate seats in Georgia.
- We organized racial and gender justice groups to prevent the spread of disinformation on social media, and we got Reddit to change its Terms of Service to stop hate speech. We reached more than 36 million people with our campaign against disinformation, and our media guide to fair reporting changed how women candidates were covered during the election. In 2021, we’re going to continue our fight to stop Facebook from profiting from disinformation campaigns.
- Working closely with Black Lives Matter Louisville, we organized more than 1 million members to demand justice for Breonna Taylor, and we helped get one of the police officers responsible for her death fired and charges against Taylor’s boyfriend dropped. We’re still working to stop police brutality and racism in law enforcement.
- We launched our #ReproReceipts program to cut off anti-choice politicians from corporate funding from companies like Disney and AT&T, and we had high-profile ads run during the NBA finals. In 2021, we’re ramping up this campaign to make sure not one more corporate dime goes to anti-abortion candidates.
- After the pandemic began, we joined forces with nurses to demand they get the PPE they need, and we fought for relief for women of color who are working on the front lines. We’re going to keep up the pressure in 2021 until Congress passes a COVID relief bill that looks out for the women risking their health for us.
We ran an ambitious agenda in 2020, and we have even bigger goals for 2021. But we can’t do it without you.
Will you make a year-end donation to UltraViolet?
Thanks for speaking out.
Shaunna, KaeLyn, Kathy, Melody, Lindsay, Sonja, Kimberly, Maria, Bridget, Katie, Iris, KD, and Elisa, the UltraViolet Action team.
