Friend,
Israeli
settlements on Palestinian land are not only an affront to Palestinian
rights and freedoms, but are corrosive to Israel’s future as a just,
democratic homeland for the Jewish people.
Sending young Israelis to guard bulldozers and wrecking crews does nothing to enhance Israel’s security -- in fact, quite the opposite.
Settlement
expansion is a violation of Israel’s founding principles of justice and
equality and a violation of international law.
As Israel’s strongest ally, it’s long past time the United States said as much.

Here’s the thing we need folks in Washington to understand : Settlements are more than just bricks and mortar.
Each
new approval, each new project, represents a determined, strategic
effort by the far-right to entrench permanent, undemocratic control over
people living in the West Bank. Each one pushes the vision of a just,
democratic and peaceful Israel further and further from reach.
And
for every settlement that’s built up, the hopes, aspirations and
futures of Palestinian people are torn down. Bulldozers are sent to
destroy schools, clinics and family homes to keep land “clean” for
settlements and annexation.
Generations
of Palestinians grow up under barbed wire, passing through checkpoints
watched by armed soldiers. Generations of Israelis -- including my own
children -- are sent to the frontlines to guard wrecking balls, outposts
and arbitrary checkpoints.
This isn’t my vision for a just, democratic Israel. Continuing to turn a blind eye to these destructive actions isn’t what it means to be “pro-Israel.”
Together,
we must show that there is broad support for the Biden administration
to take stronger action against the Israeli right while maintaining
support for the security and human rights of both peoples.
