U.S : CALL NOW ! Justice for CHINEDU !

Chinedu was tased to death by five San Mateo Sheriff's deputies. And they remain on the job.
Call 1-844-214-7947 -- Demand District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe charge the five deputies who killed Chinedu Okobi.

Dear friend,

Chinedu Okobi should be alive. It’s been nearly a month since five San Mateo Sheriff’s deputies tackled and tasered Chinedu to death. In October, Chinedu was experiencing a mental health crisis as he was walking in and out of busy traffic in Millbrae, California. Officers John DeMartini, Alyssa Lorenzatti, Joshua Wang, Bryan Watt, and Sergeant David Weidner then cornered and tased Chinedu, ultimately resulting in his death. Since then, the San Mateo Sheriff’s Department and even San Mateo District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe have blamed Chinedu for his own death. All five deputies remain on paid leave. These officers cannot get away with murder.

So far nearly 30,000 Color of Change members have signed the petition calling on District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe to fire and charge the officers who killed Chinedu. Now it’s time to step up the pressure on District Attorney Wagstaffe. The DA is being silent and dragging out the investigation of the killing of Chinedu Okobi. The DA has a horrifying pattern of letting cops get away with killing people with tasers. Back in April, a 34-year-old man, Warren Ragudo was tased to death by three Daly City, California police officers. But DA Wagstaffe did not charge the officers.1 Just a month before, Chinedu was killed, then Ramzi Saad, a 55-year-old-man, who also suffered from mental illness was tased to death by five Redwood City, California police officers. And late last week, DA Steve Wagstaffe announced he will not charge any of the officers who killed Saad and found no misconduct involved in his unjust killing.2

We cannot let the DA off the hook for his continued dismissal of police killings. Flooding his office with phone calls is a crucial step in amplifying the pressure. Steve Wagstaffe has the responsibility to hold law enforcement accountable and to be transparent in his decision to prosecute these officers.

Phone calls are an important tool to make your voice heard directly with the person who has decision making power. It’s easy and quick; just follow along below. Call 1-844-214-7947 now.

When they answer you can read from the script below, or use your own words. Be polite and calm. While we might be angry, we need to send a consistent message that can't be twisted to discredit us. We'll connect you.

Here's what to say when they answer :
  • Hi, I'm [state your name].
  • I stand with Color Of Change in demanding DA Steve Wagstaffe fire and charge the 5 officers who killed Chinedu Okobi.
  • These officers must be held accountable for the murder of Chinedu. He should still be alive.
  • Too many times, police officers are not being held accountable. As a DA, you can change that.
  • I demand justice for Chinedu and his family, and I hope you do too !

Chinedu deserved support during a tough mental health breakdown, not death. Law enforcement must work to end abusing and criminalizing people with mental health issues. Right now a family continues to mourn and are demanding answers and justice. We must show up for Chinedu and the Okobi family. It’s time for District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe do the right thing and fully recognize the humanity of Chinedu Okobi by charging the officers responsible for his death.

Until justice is real,
