Week in Review.

On Tuesday, Mayor Adams announced an order for "involuntarily assistance" from law enforcement in an attempt to help people who are homeless and dealing with mental health crises. But this directive will only make things worse. VOCAL-NY condemned the Mayor's plan in a statement from Jawanza Williams, Organizing Director at VOCAL-NY :  "New Yorkers will see this plan for what it is: a draconian attempt to say the Adams’ administration is tackling a problem, while only making it worse. The lives of people dealing with mental health crises won’t be improved by forcing them into treatment, especially if it’s coming from law enforcement. All this directive will do is disappear them." And on Thursday, VOCAL-NY joined partners across the state on World AIDS Day in honoring the lives lost to HIV/AIDS. Leaders attended rallies in Albany and New York City to put pressure on Governor Kathy Hochul, the NYS legislature, and all leaders of NYS to prioritize funding for permanent, supportive housing for people living with HIV across the state of New York.
