Dear friend,
Mississippi politicians don’t just want to control the Black and brown bodies of Mississippi women--they're trying to control the bodies of women across the country.
They’ve already passed some of the most draconian anti-choice laws in the country, shutting down all but one abortion clinic in the state, which disproportionately affects women of color.1
Now, they’re asking the Supreme Court to take up their unconstitutional 15-week abortion ban--hoping Amy Coney Barrett, Brett Kavanaugh, and the rest of the 6-3 right-wing majority will strike down Roe v. Wade.2
Congress must act now to pass legislation to keep abortion legal in all 50 states and ensure access for those with low income and people of color. Will you chip in $5 ?
Yes, I'll donate $5 to UltraViolet Action and help defend abortion rights.
Unfortunately, Mississippi is far from alone.
Ever since Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett’s confirmations cemented an anti-choice majority on the Supreme Court, states have been passing new abortion bans and reviving old ones, hoping for a vehicle to dismantle women’s right to access safe abortion care.
If the Supreme Court declines to take up Mississippi’s ban when it meets this month, it could still decide to take it--or another case--later in the year : at least nine states have bans that have been blocked by lower courts.3
If Supreme Court justices vote to uphold any of these bans and dismantle Roe, the consequences for women across the country will be swift and far-reaching.
Twenty-one states have abortion bans on their books. Ten states, including Mississippi, Tennessee, and Louisiana have ‘trigger laws’ to ban abortion immediately if Roe falls.4
Even more terrifying, the court could decide to reinterpret the constitution to ban abortion access across the entire nation.5
With Democrats in control of the White House and both houses of Congress, this is the moment to act.
Thanks for speaking out.
