Friend, welcome is one of my favorite words.
When a refugee flees their home, desperate for safety, shelter, and
kindness, the first thing we always say is, "Welcome." It was a message
heard at World Refugee Day events around the globe this month, and that
word means everything to someone who just lost their home, community and
sense of safety.
So, it's my honor to also welcome you to this global community
of compassionate people who stand with resilient refugee families from
around the world.
You are committed to doing your part to support refugees – more than
110 million people worldwide have been forced to flee their homes. You
can start making a difference in just one minute. Will you sign your name in support of welcoming and including refugees in our communities as they restart their lives?
Too often, refugees face social, economic or cultural barriers to
restarting their lives in a new community. We can all do more to give
refugees more opportunities and help them keep hope for a bright future
when they are far away from home.
That starts by opening our doors and our hearts to let them know they
are valued members of the community by ensuring they can apply for jobs,
enroll in school, and access social services like housing and
healthcare.
By
signing your name today, you're showing the world's most vulnerable
people that you care — and that you are ready and willing to welcome
refugees into our communities.
I am so proud of the compassion and love that you and this global community have for refugees from around the world.
With gratitude,
Jennifer Simon
Senior Director, Advocacy and Community Engagement
USA for UNHCR.
P.S. The thoughtfulness you have shown to the children, women and men fleeing their homes is inspiring — thank you. When
you join our monthly giving community, you put your love into action by
empowering refugees every day with the resources they need to build a
bright new future. |
