Today
is Juneteenth, a federal holiday recognizing the end of slavery in the
United States. But at Boys & Girls Clubs across the country, it's so
much more than that. It's a chance for us to recognize and celebrate
the perseverance and spirit of Black people in this nation.
Here are some great ways to honor Juneteenth with the young people in your life :
Create opportunities for youth to connect with the important people in their lives, their histories and stories.
Find media that celebrates Black identity, family, friendships and connection.
Encourage teens to have open conversations and discuss history on their own terms.
Thanks
to you, Clubs provide safe, inclusive environments where youth of all
races, abilities, gender expressions and backgrounds are encouraged to
express themselves and deepen their understanding of and respect for
others. Because when Club kids and teens work together to create
positive change, they can envision a better tomorrow.
