U.S (HIP HOP CAUCUS) : in Atlanta (Georgia), The results of the COP CITY Vote.

Friend,

Earlier this week, Rev Yearwood joined a coalition of activists and faith leaders to call on the Atlanta City Council to block funding for Cop City – a project that would destroy one of the nation’s largest urban forests and replace it with a militarized police training facility.

If Cop City gets funding it would replace the nation’s largest urban forest with the largest militarized police training facility in North America would set a precedent for other proposed facilities across the country and fuel US imperialism.

Unfortunately, the City Council refused to listen to the voices of the people and approved funding for Cop City. But this fight isn’t over yet.

Despite 234 public comments speaking out against the construction of Cop City (and only FOUR comments supporting it), Atlanta’s elected leaders instead decided to stand by a plan that sets an extremely dangerous precedent regarding police militarization, US imperialism, and violence towards Black and brown communities.

We have never pretended that the fight for justice is linear. There will be setbacks, there will be defeats, there will be oppressors who refuse to stand by the will of the people. But the power of our movement is not just in victory – it is in the persistent, unyielding dedication towards justice.

Hip Hop Caucus and coalition allies will continue fighting Cop City and police injustice at-large across the country. Support that critical work with a contribution today >>

These events are just another example of why mobilizing our community power to elect real champions for justice is so critical – at every level on the ballot. That is how we enact lasting change and stand against the oppressive forces of injustice.

For future generations,

Hip Hop Caucus
