Friend,
We are filled
with sorrow and outrage seeing what is unfolding in Gaza and Israel. No
civilian deserves to be met with violence or death—not at the hands of
Israeli defense forces, nor at the hands of Hamas. We mourn the lives of
Israelis and Palestinians lost, and condemn all forms of antisemitism
and Islamophobia.
The horrifying
escalation of violence we are witnessing today has been unfolding for
decades. Billions of U.S. dollars have helped fund Israel’s ongoing
systematic dehumanization of Palestinians, and occupation and apartheid
in Palestine. Now, as water, food, electricity, fuel, and medicine have
been cut off or denied, people remain trapped in an “open air prison”
while Israel bombs Palestinians indiscriminately. The atrocities are
unspeakable, and the violence has spread from Gaza into the West Bank,
where Israeli settlers have killed more Palestinians.
As we search for ways to take action, we are following organizations like the U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights and Jewish Voice for Peace.
Organizers have led tens-of-thousands of
people to demand an immediate ceasefire, the release of hostages, access
to humanitarian aid, and an end to the occupation and bombardment of
Palestine. We are not alone. Millions of people across the globe have
taken to the streets, and we must continue.
This
moment calls for us to do everything we can to save as many lives as
possible and protect children and families. Will you join us in
demanding a ceasefire by calling your Congress Member to support the
resolution calling for an “immediate de-escalation and cease-fire in
Israel and occupied Palestine” and send humanitarian aid to people in
Gaza?
VOCAL is
building a movement of low-income people dedicated to ending the AIDS
epidemic, the war on drugs, mass incarceration, and homelessness. We
fight for systemic change rooted in justice, compassion, and love. Even
in these moments of such sorrow, we have hope in our shared humanity and
will continue to demand the future we all deserve.
In solidarity, VOCAL-NY, VOCAL-KY, & VOCAL-TX
