Friend :
The news over the last few days has been horrifying. I know many of you reading this, like me, are hoping for the violence in Israel and Gaza to end — and to see people, in particular hostages, safely reunited with their families as fast as possible.
Attacks on everyday people are war crimes that have no place in any conflict. Hamas’ deadly attacks against civilians and hostage-taking are unconscionable. I also know that a siege of Gaza where millions of people — many of whom are children — are without water, food, or electricity isn’t justice.
The U.S. government has a crucial role to play in what happens next — and our voices can help ensure those efforts focus on preventing further escalation and protecting people’s lives.
ACT NOW |
We don’t always share much about our personal lives, but today, I wanted to : My children have both Jewish and Muslim heritage, and I’ll admit I hugged them closer over the last few days. My kids could have easily been in Gaza or Sderot this weekend and left to endure unspeakable trauma.
The thing is — all of us, as human beings, deserve the right to dignity and to be able to thrive without the fear of violence, and that’s not what the status quo is delivering.
Any solution that relies on the collective punishment of a group of people is never going to result in long-term security for anyone. If we saw anything this weekend, it is that the ‘state of the art’ smart walls and weapons systems used by the Israeli government weren’t able to deliver adequate security to people in Israel. Israel’s blockade, continued surveillance, and violence against people in Palestine have certainly not delivered dignity or true safety — to anyone.
People in Israel and Palestine deserve justice and solutions that bring about real lasting peace rooted in our shared values that every human deserves dignity.
Thank you for working for peace,
Sara, on behalf of the Win Without War team
