Friend,
The people of Afghanistan were already facing brutal conflict and an ongoing economic crisis when two devastating earthquakes and five
fierce aftershocks struck in the past few days. UNHCR teams are on the
ground rushing to respond to the compounding crises and support as many
displaced families as possible.
The second earthquake that hit Afghanistan on Wednesday was a massive
6.3 magnitude. This situation is unfolding, but reports indicate more
than 2,000 were killed and countless others are still missing, creating
yet another humanitarian disaster in the region.
UNHCR is already on the ground and working around the clock to
assess the needs of survivors. Lives depend on it — which is exactly the
kind of work your compassionate emergency gift can help support.
Will you rush an urgent donation of $180 to ensure we can show up in moments like this in Afghanistan and beyond?
Tragically, this is just the latest in a series of emergencies to hit
the country, and displaced children, women and families are among the
most vulnerable.
UNHCR has been on the ground in Afghanistan for decades and continues
to deliver lifesaving aid, shelter and protection to people forced to
flee. But we cannot do it alone. Right now we're counting on the
kindness and dedication of this community, of people like you, who have shown up time and time again to help save lives.
Please
make an emergency gift now to support displaced families who are living
through some of their most terrifying moments — today, and whenever a
crisis occurs.
I know just how much you care and will continue to update you on how your generosity is making a difference.
In partnership,
Suzanne Ehlers
