U.S' mass shootings : there's still hope !

Dear friend,

This weekend at least 31 people were murdered and dozens more were injured in the El Paso and Dayton shootings.1 31 people's lives were stolen and many more changed forever due to hatred and easy access to guns. We may never know the final count because reports show that some undocumented immigrants injured in the El Paso shooting may have avoided seeking medical care for fear of deportation.2

In a story that's now all too familiar, both shooters had a history of violence. While in high school, it was well known that the Dayton shooter kept a "kill list" and a list of female classmates he wanted to sexually assault.3 The El Paso shooter wrote a racist, anti-immigrant "manifesto" before he opened fire.4 Here's what it comes down to--when violent racist and sexist people get access to guns, they can kill many people. And Trump, despite his attempts to say otherwise, is stoking the flame.

These are difficult and painful times, but it's not hopeless. There are renewed calls for Congress to pass meaningful gun reform. Congress must do everything in its power to denounce Trump's brand of racism and sexism that inspires shooters. Plus, they can pass common-sense gun safety laws to make it harder for potential shooters to get deadly weapons. There is momentum right now--join in and demand action from Congress.

Tell Congress :

You must do everything in your power to stop white nationalist violence.
Denounce Trump's hate speech and pass comprehensive gun control laws--
including increased background
checks and a ban on assault weapons--NOW.

Trump claims to condemn racism, but his actions speak loudly--and reach people like the El Paso shooter. Trump began his run for president by calling Mexican immigrants rapists. He has defended white nationalists as "very fine people."5 His attacks go far beyond words. Since Trump took office, 24 immigrants have died in Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) custody.6 Trump has normalized violence against women and immigrants. Trump's rhetoric makes white nationalism seems mainstream.

Add that to the fact that guns are easy to get in the U.S. and we have an epic crisis.

Congress must act. Every single member of Congress has a moral imperative to act to stop white nationalist violence by loudly and unequivocally stating their disagreement and distain for Trump's racism and passing comprehensive gun control now. Background checks and a ban on assault weapons are popular policies within our reach.

The people are more powerful than the NRA

Sign now to demand Congress takes action. We will deliver every signature to Congress.

Thanks for speaking out !
