Friend, together the Daily Kos community gathered over 20,000 signatures on a petition in support of Trader Joe’s (TJ) employees and their fight for better working conditions after the Hadley store in Massachusetts announced their intent to file for a union vote.
Last week, the Hadley, Massachusetts Trader Joe’s became the first store in the chain's history to win its union vote. This is exciting news but may mark just the beginning of what could be a nasty and aggressive anti-union campaign against workers at the Hadley store and at other stores across the U.S. that have announced their intent to follow in the Hadley stores' footsteps.
Knowing the union vote was looming, workers at the Hadley store have noted that two senior TJ officials have visited the store frequently over the past several weeks. They met with employees and suggested unionizing could lead to workers receiving less generous benefits and having “less collaborative” relationships with managers. One TJ employee even said that the store manager and a senior official outright asked him to vote no.
Help celebrate this victory for the Hadley store by urging Trader Joe's to negotiate a fair contract, and stop all anti-union practices it intends to employ at stores across the country. Keep fighting, Jayleen Alvarado, Daily Kos. |
