Week in Review.

Thousands of asylum seekers have been sent to New York City seeking refuge in recent weeks. But with shelters already struggling to house longtime residents and those living on the streets, the system can't keep up. On Friday, VOCAL-NY joined advocates to call for more support to respond to this crisis in the form of "$40 million from the city and state for medical services, interpreters, legal assistance, and resettlement services." Until the city can house individuals and families who have been seeking housing for months and years, it must drastically rethink its approach to this influx of people who are housing insecure.
