In New York City this week, Mayor Adams was back in front of the camera, making yet another plea to rollback bail reform laws. Governor Hochul has already indicated the legislature would not take the issue back up, having already made changes to the law this past session. And this past week, Speaker Carl Heastie jumped in on Twitter to also pushback on Adams' call for more bail rollbacks. In a rally at One Police Plaza just before Adam's press conference, VOCAL-NY leader, D'Juan Collins, blasted the Mayor's efforts : "The crisis impacts mostly black and brown people and low-income people," D'Juan Collins with VOCAL New York said at a rally outside One Police Plaza. "That's who's in jail. Ever since we passed bail reform, the mayor and Republicans have been attacking the reforms, demanding that more people be sent to jail pre-trial."
