Puerto Rico, still recovering from Hurricane Maria, just got
pummeled by Hurricane Fiona. It couldn’t have come at a worse time -
peak harvest season.
Communities were underwater, roads and bridges are destroyed, homes are not livable, and crops have been decimated.
Hurricane Fiona dropped over 30 inches of rain on Puerto Rico.
Dozens of people had to be rescued by the National Guard. Almost 1
million people may still be without power. Hundreds of thousands are
still without water. And the economy of Puerto Rico is expected to take a
multi-billion dollar hit.
All of this happened at a time when Puerto Rico was still coming
to terms with the damage done by Hurricane Maria, compounding the
still-existing problems.
Today, we're supporting 5 groups :
Puerto Rico Rises is a volunteer-lead 501(c)(3) works
with over 130 allies on the ground to distribute millions of pounds of
relief supplies right after a hurricane, as well as construction
materials to help Puerto Ricans rebuild.
World Central Kitchen is first to the frontlines,
providing meals in response to humanitarian, climate, and community
crises. WCK feeds disaster victims and relief workers all around the
world !
Foundation for Puerto Rico provides facilities for relief missions and supports small business recovery with cash grants and technical assistance.
Waves Ahead Puerto Rico provides mental health support
and emergency shelter to older adults, LGBTQ+ Puerto Ricans, the
homeless, and other marginalized communities.
United Way of Puerto Rico is distributing supplies such
as water, food, mattresses, and ice. Donations will also help long-term
recovery from flooding and infrastructure damage.
Only by giving are you able to receive more than you already have.
