Week in Review.

On Tuesday, New York City made history by becoming the first city in the nation to allow two life-saving Overdose Prevention Centers (OPCs) to begin operating. This victory has been years in the making, and comes after demanding elected officials quit stalling on these invaluable spaces. Now that OPCs are operational in New York City, VOCAL-NY is committed to making sure New Yorkers across the state have access to the same spaces, and will push for the Safer Consumption Services Act (SCSA). Just one day after this meaningful win, VOCAL-NY leaders joined the End the Epidemic coalition in taking action on World AIDS Day. Activists held a rally and community forum to honor those who have passed, and gathered to hear Gov. Hochul and Mayor-elect Adams recommit to ending HIV/AIDS in New York. While OPCs are a positive step towards stopping the spread of the virus, VOCAL-NY is also calling for stable housing across the state to ensure those living with HIV can receive treatment.
