Friend,

The right to access safe and legal abortion services is essential for bodily autonomy, health, and equality. Choices about reproductive health should not be decided by Republican extremist legislation that imposes unnecessary barriers and forces people into dangerous situations.

But since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, making abortion illegal in 13 states, countless individuals do not have the necessary access they need to this vital healthcare service. The consequences of this ruling are enormous and disproportionately harm marginalized communities that lack the resources they need for reproductive healthcare.

However, amidst these challenging times, there have been glimmers of hope and resilience. In 2022, voters in Kansas, Kentucky, and Montana successfully fought back attempts to impose anti-abortion bans, signaling a bold commitment to preserving abortion rights. In addition, California, Vermont, and Michigan took monumental steps forward by passing ballot measures that enshrine abortion rights into their state constitutions.

Abortion is not just a healthcare issue; it is a fundamental human right that ensures the personal autonomy and dignity of individuals. Infringement upon this right is not merely a policy issue; it is an outright attack on the principles of freedom and choice.

States have a significant role to play in protecting and expanding reproductive rights, including the crucial right to access safe and legal abortion services, but we must build support and keep up the pressure to make it happen. Sign the petition: Protect and expand abortion rights at the state level now.

One of the most crucial steps that states can take to protect and expand abortion rights is to repeal or amend existing restrictive legislation.

Many states have imposed burdensome requirements, such as mandatory waiting periods, unnecessary medical procedures, and targeted regulation of abortion providers (TRAP) laws. These restrictions create significant barriers to abortion services. States can work towards repealing such laws, allowing access to abortion care without unnecessary hurdles, and protecting reproductive rights.

States can also take proactive measures to protect and expand abortion rights.

This includes passing laws that guarantee access to safe and legal abortion services, regardless of any federal restrictions. In fact, right now, there are 23 states where voters can affirmatively enshrine abortion rights, and ones like New York and Maryland have already placed an abortion rights measure on the 2024 ballot. In Florida, Ohio and even South Dakota, dedicated activists are gathering signatures to ensure that the issue is put before the voters too.

These states can and should follow in the footsteps of California, Vermont, and Michigan to ensure that reproductive rights are not just preserved, but also expanded. It is not only about securing the rights of individuals today, but also about future generations who deserve to live in a world where their rights are respected and protected.

In a call for all who believe in the fundamental principles of human rights, dignity, and personal autonomy, help build the movement to protect and expand abortion rights by adding your name now.

The clock is ticking. It is time to stand up and ensure that the fundamental right to access safe, legal abortion services is protected.
