Dear friend,    Hip Hop Caucus is deeply saddened by the news of the horrific mass shootings in Monterey Park, Half Moon Bay, and Oakland California. In just 44 hours, there were three mass shootings, and 19 lives were lost. Gun violence continues to wreak havoc on our country, and we need our elected leaders to enact gun reform now. We’re only 28 days into 2023, but the U.S. has already had 33 mass shootings. Hip Hop Caucus is dedicated to advocating for tangible, policy-based solutions as we mourn the victims of these horrific tragedies. So often, we hear from our elected leaders that nothing could have predicted or prevented these shootings—but that couldn’t be further from the truth. These tragedies are the cost of continued inaction on gun violence. Lawmakers in Congress must prioritize gun reform legislation, strengthen current laws, close existing loopholes, and ban assault weapons. Thoughts and prayers aren’t enough.
