Will you chip in to support the leadership of Black parents, students, and advocates
?

Dear friend,

What does it take to transform a desire for justice into reality ? This is the question that Mary Moran, and community education advocacy group, Our Voice/Nuestra Voz (OVNV), took on when the parents of Louisiana High School came to them with concerns that undocumented students were being discriminated against -- based on a rule that prevented them from participating in the school’s athletic league without social security numbers. After learning about our member-led platform, Organize For, Our Voice/Nuestra Voz launched a petition that quickly gained thousands of signatures and pushed the school to amend its policy in just three days, a victory for Black undocumented students who deserve the same kinds of educational opportunities as their counterparts.

Across the country, the role that local community organizing is playing in the fight to keep Black students safe cannot be overstated. From interrupting the school-to-prison pipeline, to reducing the disparities in punishment Black students face, to demanding investment in quality public schools, there are no people better equipped to fight for the equal access in education that Black children so desperately need than the fierce leaders who are already part of the community. Today, we are asking you to keep the fight for justice for our students across the nation strong by investing in the kind of grassroots, community power that Organize For was built to amplify. Watch OVNV describe how they turned an idea into action, and then let us know -- will you chip in $3 to help Black families win power for their kids in 2019?

Your support allows us to :
  • Train our Organize For members in digital organizing strategies, social media, and press strategies so that they can run and win successful campaigns on the ground.
  • Rent space, purchase food, and pay for travel that allows us to bring our member leaders together in-person to strategize around local policy that has the opportunity to reshape the landscape of educational justice in their communities.
  • Provide one-on-one project planning assistance to community members interested in building electoral power in their neighborhoods as 2020 approaches.

Parents, students, and community members in every state are working hard to preserve the integrity of Black children’s access to quality education and they are using our member-led platform to get it done. Will you help them get there by donating $3 to Organize For today?

Until justice is real,

Kwesi, Rashad, Arisha, Shannon, Dominique, Imani, Sonya, and the rest of the Color of Change team

Color Of Change is building a movement to elevate the voices of Black folks and our allies, and win real social and political change. Help keep our movement strong.
