Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger recently announced plans to purge more than 313,000 people from the state’s voter rolls1, adding to the already-staggering 1.4+million Georgia voters his predecessor Governor Brian Kemp has disenfranchised since 20122. These purges, which disproportionately impact Black voters, are just some of the attacks on democracy happening across the state of Georgia and the nation at large. Yet at last night’s Democratic Presidential Debate in Atlanta -- the fifth Presidential debate this year -- debate moderators asked their very first question about voting rights in the last ten minutes of the two-hour event. It was a stark reminder of the importance of our ongoing work confronting misinformation and voter suppression efforts in Georgia and across the country. Chip in to join us today.
Candidates running for office at all levels of government have offered important ideas and plans all year long, but none of their proposals can be implemented if voters can't even cast the ballots needed to elect them. We’re just weeks away from one of the most important years in America’s entire civic history, yet political party leaders and major media outlets like The Washington Post and MSNBC still don't fully grasp the importance of centering efforts to combat voter suppression and strengthen our democracy. Last night’s belated interest in this issue makes it clear : we all we got, dear friend. Organizations like Color Of Change, working side-by-side with activists like you. If we’re going to make the most of 2020, it’s on us to make sure it happens. Can you pitch in now to support our democracy work?
The 2020 Census and elections offer truly extraordinary opportunities to build lasting political power, and Color Of Change’s growing Democracy team has a plan to make the most of it. We’re already equipping members like you to help get out the count and the vote, and expanding our capacity to spot and challenge attempts at voter suppression before they block Black voters from the voting booth. But it’s going to take resources to turn our vision into reality. Can we count on you to help us build power in Black communities in 2020?
