Friend,
Just a few weeks ago, Valentina was leading her class of kindergarten students through their lessons. After school, she went home to her 8-year-old daughter and they laughed and ate dinner together.
Then violence changed everything. Valentina, her young daughter, her sister and her 2-month-old nephew were forced to leave everything behind. They made the arduous week-long journey by bus, train and on foot from their home in Kharkiv, finally arriving in Poland safely.
But thanks to compassionate people like you, Valentina and her family were greeted with emergency supplies, warmth and protection. I hope you'll take a moment to read Valentina's incredible story today.
In just one month, millions of women, children and families have been forced to flee violence in Ukraine. The need is great — but so is the kindness of people just like you. Thanks to this compassionate community's immediate response, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency has been on the ground since the moment this crisis began.
You are making it possible for us to provide emergency care to thousands of families like Valentina's — and are ensuring we are there to continue providing critical aid and relief as the crisis continues.
Please, join me in learning more about Valentina and her family's bravery and resilience as they sought safety.
Sincerely,
Anne-Marie Grey Executive Director and CEO USA for UNHCR.
P.S. — Refugees like Valentina are forced to make impossible choices to save their families. But you can show them they are not alone. If you make a compassionate gift to help families fleeing Ukraine right now, your gift will be matched up to $1M by Airbnb Co-Founder and Airbnb.org Chairman Joe Gebbia — dollar for dollar. Thank you. |
